I can see the motivational potential of photobooks and eBooks being used with my students. Teaching cause and effect, What happens next? and other creative writing activities can be taught in a novel and fun way. I know that students like to see themselves and would be enthused and amused to share their experiences. It's a strategy that uses the know to the unknown in a fun and excited way. My group had fun staging a sequence of events to be used in our photobook exercise for next week.
We were required to work in a group, share ideas, dramatise, edit the photos to be used (collaborate) and come to a consensus. I can go on and on because I was impressed with this fairly cheap and feasible way to arouse my students curiosity.
I agree that photostories and ebooks are great resources to motivate and engage students for reading and writing instruction. Who knew that powerpoint has so much potential in the classroom? It is obvious that as educators we need to really assess the ways in which we can effectively use technology to enhance the learnig/teaching experience. Honestly though, I must admit I had tremendous fun putting my ebook together. So I have decided that ebooks are definitely going to be part of my gift giving package.I actually made an ebook for my Goddaughter's birthday coming up soon. I know she would just love it. I hope we are all willing to implement what we learn when this course is over.
ReplyDeleteHow nice of you to create an ebook for your Goddaughter for her birthday. I really like the power of the ebooks. They are highly motivational and can really aid students in reading and writing. Students can have so much fun using photos and clip arts, animations, music, sounds and their own recordings to create exciting ebooks about any aspect of the curriculum or personal life experiences. The more you live is the more you learn. Perhaps we can make a concerted effort to discover as much technology as possible that is available to enhance literacy in a novel and exciting way.
ReplyDeleteI totally agreed with you, when you said that as teachers we need to be abreast with the technology out there. We are teaching students who are proficient in ipod, wii, texting and all that technology have to offer. 'We need to get with the times'or else our delivery strategies would become obsolete and monotonous.
