Wikis

Do you know that Wiki is really Wikipedia? Yes, as the name suggest 'pedia' and "Wiki -quick". I was reading an article and it referenced the unfortunate event of the Indian Ocean earthquake that triggered the tsunami in 2004. Within nine hours of the event 76 word post was created and within twenty four hours over 400 edits were made posting of photographs, graphic descriptions and chart documents were added.
Isn't this tool just GREAT! I think so. What do you think?

  1. Hi Viji,

Like you, I too am impressed with wikis and especially the way they can be used as a teaching tool. I like that multiple users can have access to editing the same draft and all that is required is an internet connection. I can see the benefits of using it for group work, where students can all do research on a given topic and add/ edit information. I also read your other post about 50 uses of wikis, thanks for sharing those additional ideas on how we can use it with our students.

  2. Hi Kavita,
I am still amazed on the collaborative input all group members can have on a given activity. You can literally see the developmental stages each edited version has on the piece of work. Its brain storming with a difference. One of the benefit is that the teacher can monitor the input of each student.
